KA-IA was originally established by Karen Abernethy in Switzerland in 2008 and is now permanently based in Melbourne.

Our practice listens, perceives, and sensitively interprets the reqirements of each project and its site to resonate with context and create moments of joy, awe and wonder within the spatial experience.

We specialise in small projects including single residential and boutique commercial spaces. We choose to work at this scale so that we can collaborate closely with our clients and take the time to profoundly understand their requirements.

Our team, which includes skilled consultants and craftspeople ensure that each project meets budget requirements, respects the environment and contributes in a harmonious and meaningful way to its surroundings.
